A backtrace would be a great start. When it dumps core, issue:

gdb /path/to/suricata /path/to/core

So if your suricata binary is in /usr/bin/ and the core is in /tmp/, do:

gdb /usr/bin/suricata /tmp/core. Then get a backtrace with "bt".
