[outreachy] Question about overall projects

Hey All,

Just wanted to introduce myself, my names Branden Bonaby and I was
interested Suricata for its ability for intrusion detection and
prevention. I'm up in Canada so hope time zone issues wont be a problem.
I wanted to ask, what metrics do you guys over in the Suricata team use
when deciding if we all meet the minimum to be considered. Im asking
because helping to fix bugs and add new features are fine but I was
looking more for community knowledge sharing and building. I'm also
interested in ways that the OISF can make suricata and suricata better,
but I wouldn't say that I have the best command of the python and C
language, though I do currently use both. As someone who is still
passionate about software develoment but new to open source, what about
the Suricata and suricata-update projects set them apart from the rest?
