One of our mentors is in Canada, so that should not be a problem.

In addition to the tickets we also appreciate additions and fixes to
documentation. Helping community members on the projects support
channels (irc, mailinglists, or even twitter) is valuable too.

What sets Suricata apart technically is something you can read about on
our website, here: https://suricata-ids.org/

The OISF is a non-profit foundation that drives the development and pays
for developers. I think our community is mostly a community of
professionals who use Suricata as part of their jobs. This reflects in
simple things like low community activity in weekends and holidays.

I think we have plenty of beginner level tickets/tasks you could try to
see if you python and/or C skills match the project.

Best regards,
Victor
