Maybe you can run without the -D for a while, then it stays in the
foreground. I think in daemon mode it changes work dir.
Which reminds me, could there be a core file in "/", so "/core"?
Wrt apport, what does:
cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
give you?
