Yes of course there are plans.
The question is should we enable hyperscan for only those Ubuntu distros that natively have it (I think latest/devel Ubuntu - Zesty ) or should we maintain our hyperscan pkg for the rest of the Ubuntu distros (besides Zesty) and enable it and support it on all.

I can actually try to enable it on Zesty if you want to give some feedback that would be great?
