Good advice and thanks for that link, things can be difficult when you
have no insight into network hardware whatsoever.  :P

To give props where they are due, it was Fatima's (from U of Delaware)
presentation at Zeekcon about the usefulness of the weird.log that got
me initially pointed to eventually uncovering the source of the problem.
