Therefore, I ask: are there any questions specifically related to the Suricata project community you would like asto answer?

Sending an email to everyone regarding this today.

Should we go through the issues in Redmine and try to workout something from there, and bring that back to you, or do you already have something in mind for this? (Just as a reminder, I am applying for the Convert protocol from C to Rust).

If you are working on this project, check out the actual issue that
you'll be dealing with:
https://redmine.openinfosecfoundation.org/issues/3957
Here, I have mentioned step wise how to go about the conversion of the
protocol. So maybe you could keep a month for UDP conversion, a month
and a half for TCP conversion and transaction handling, half a month
for testing and any required fixes. Please check the summary in the
issue to get an idea of the exact things needed to be done in these
three steps.
Also, please note that this is very tentative. It might take
longer/shorter for you to carry out these tasks so we don't mind if
something is amiss from the timeline. :)
