I don't know if this is an AMD64 thing, a freebsd thing, or what. but I 
verified that it is also in the barnyard2 code that Paul is currently 
distributing (the current barnyard2).

I will be sending him those patches also, but I was wondering if you 
want them in the upstream as a #ifdef FREEBSD..
or, just add it in.  from the man page, the rc should be 8 bit only anyway.
